What is an EV charger?
An EV charger is the equipment used to deliver electricity to an electric vehicle. It may be a small home wallbox, a public AC charger, a fast DC charger or an ultra-rapid charging unit with multiple plugs.
Technically, the equipment is often called EVSE, which stands for Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment. In everyday language, most drivers simply call it an EV charger or charging station.
Why EV chargers matter
Not all EV chargers are the same. Some deliver low-power AC charging that is useful when a vehicle will be parked for several hours. Others provide high-power DC charging that can add range much faster. The charger’s connector type also matters because a vehicle needs a compatible plug or inlet.
On Penguin Power, EV charger listings help drivers compare charger speed, plug type, location, access details and the surrounding area. A good listing should make it clear whether a charger is suitable for a quick top-up, a longer stop or a planned road trip charging session.
